Brewster Layout

The final layout from our Cape Cod weekend is this one from our travels around Brewster. Loved checking out the town and especially liked the General Store - it was like stepping back in time. Used up more scraps of the Seas the Day collection for this.

The inspiration for this layout came from this sketch from Scrapbook Generation. They have a lot of downloadable sketches on their site.

I converted the sketch to 8 1/2" x 11" to work with the size I use for my albums. I changed the photo size to work with the new layout size. The title was die cut using the Simple Serif Uppercase Thin Cuts set. The embellishments came from the Seas the Day Collection.

3 Sisters Layout

Another stop we made while on the Cape was to the 3 Sisters Lighthouses in Eastham. These were the original lighthouse along the shoreline in Eastham that were replaced by the Nauset Lighthouse and moved to their current location due to beach erosion. Had fun using up more scraps of the Seas the Day collection with this layout.

The inspiration for this layout came from this sketch from a challenge on Creative Scrappers. You can see this sketch along with others here.

I converted the sketch to 8 1/2" x 11" to work with the size I use for my albums. I kept the photo size to close to what I thought the sketch photo size was (3"x 4") but changed the sizing of the patterned paper elements to work with the different layout size. The title was die cut using some different sets from my stash. The embellishments came from the Seas the Day Collection.

Celebrating 26 Years Layout

The second workshop I did this weekend at the Ready Set Crop Winter Wonderland retreat was this one featuring the Let's Party Collection from the January/February Close To My Heart Catalog. I created my version to be gender neutral but let the workshop attendees choose to make it more boy or girl themed by substituting a color of cardstock and ink on their version. I also let them die cut the number of years for their layouts.

The sketch we followed comes from the Make It From Your Heart Volume 6 Idea Book. I love working with this idea book as it features single page layouts, double page layouts, standard card sketches, as well as slimline card sketches.

The title was stamped using the Celebrating Everything stamp set in Black Exclusive Ink. The present and numbers come from the Let's Party Scrapbooking Stamp Set + Thin Cuts. I used a Black LePen and ruler to draw a border around the White Daisy cardstock pieces as well as to add some faux-stitching to the pennant banner on the left-hand page.

Sweet Memories Treat Bags

I taught a class at a recent Ready Set Crop scrapbook retreat on how to make these 2 treat bags from one sheet of double sided patterned paper plus a few pieces of coordinating cardstock. The fun thing about these bags are that they both follow the same scoring and cutting diagram and assembly, the difference lies in how you "pinch" the sides of the box when you close it.

You will find a link to the downloadable PDF with the full directions for cutting, scoring, and assembling both versions at the end of this post. 

To start creating these 2 bags you will need to take 1 piece of 12" x 12" patterned paper - I used paper from the Sweet Memories collection for this. Cut this in 1/2 into 2 6" x 12" pieces. For both pieces you will need to score them according to the following diagram. Score along the 6" side at 2" from the bottom. Score along the 12" side at 1", 3 3/4", 6 1/2" and 9 1/4".

Fold along the score lines and cut away the bottom left piece in between the 2" horizontal score line and the 1" vertical score line (as shown in the diagram). Cut up each of the other vertical score lines from the bottom to the 2" horizontal score line to create the tabs for the treat bag base.

Place strong adhesive on the front of the treat box along the 1" side tab and the rightmost bottom tab as shown.

Place strong adhesive on the back of the treat bag box on the 2 bottom tabs closest to the 1" side tab as shown.

Remove backing from adhesive on the 1" side tab and adhere behind the rightmost side.

Turn the bag upside down and fold the tabs in starting with the back tab followed by the sides and finish with the front.

Turn the bag right side up and "pinch" the sides either out or in depending on the box shape you want.

Using a piece of cardstock for a closure, fold it in 1/2 and placing adhesive on the under side of one 1/2 adhere this to the back of the treat bag. Holding the bag and closure closed, punch holes through all layers. 

Add a sentiment strip and some stamped images to embellish the front of the bag. I used the Heartfelt Thoughts Stamp Set + Thin Cuts for mine. Feed some ribbon through the layers starting with the back and tying a bow in the front. Fill with some treats and give to your family and friends.

Celebrating Us Layout

Mike and I celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary while on our Cape Cod weekend away. We went to the Chatham Bars Inn to have a wonderful dinner. It was a perfect weekend away with a perfect dinner to top it off!

The inspiration for this layout came from this sketch from a challenge on Design by Diana. You can see this sketch along with others here.

I converted the sketch to 8 1/2" x 11" to work with the size I use for my albums. I kept the photo size close to what I believe the sketch used since I wanted it to be the focal point in the layout. I continued to use up some scraps of the Seas the Day collection for this layout so it would keep with the look and feel of the other layouts from this weekend. I stamped the title strip using the Celebrating Everything Stamp Set. The phrase banner on the top of the layout was stamped using the Remember this Moment Stamp Set.
