Witch's Broom Treat Bags and a Tutorial

Halloween is always a fun time for me as I enjoy coming up with a new way to share some treats with my coworkers. We do a celebration at work on Halloween each year - dressing up, bringing in food, as well as some treats. This year I decided to make these Witch's Broom Treat Bags and decorate them with stamped images from the I Want Candy Special from Close To My Heart.

I will walk you through the steps below. I am also including a link to my process video at the end of this post.

For the treat bag you will need 2 small kraft bags, a straw (or twig), some ribbon, some stamped images or other embellishments, and, of course, candy to fill it!

The first step is to open up and flatten one of the 2 kraft bags as shown. Make sure to fold the bottom corners in. Cut short cuts in the bag that you did not open up along the top and about 2" down. Cut long cuts in the bag you opened up from the top down to the fold line for the bag bottom.

Open up the bag with the short cuts and fill it with candy. I recommend not filling it anymore that half-way full so it can be tied neatly. Insert this bag into the bag with the long cuts.

Insert a straw into the bag and tie the cuts from the outer bag up around the inner bag and straw using a piece of ribbon. Add some stamped images for embellishments and you are ready to give this treat bag to someone special!

Here is the link to the process video on my YouTube Channel.

I hope you like these treat bags! Thanks for stopping by!

NYC Weekend On a Mission Layout

While the rain kept us from doing a lot of shopping in New York City when Meghan and I did shop it was with a purpose in mind! Meghan and some friends were going to a renaissance faire and they wanted to dress up for it - not with a standard store-bought costume but with one of their own design. We mapped out costume shops to check out and found one down on 21st St where they were able to get some components of the planned costume.

The inspiration for this layout came from this sketch I found on the Create Magazine from Scrapbook Generation. You can see this sketch along with others here.

I converted this sketch from 12" x 12" to 8 1/2" x 11" since I am working in this format for most of my projects now. I decided to just use the left-hand page of the sketch for this layout. I love being able to take a 2-page sketch and convert it to a 1-page layout. I did end up changing the squares to rectangles and cut down the number of photos to work with the smaller page format. The title is a combination of die cut letters and letter stickers.

NYC Weekend - Museum of Broadway Layout

One of the fun things we did while in New York City was to visit the Museum of Broadway. This museum opened up recently and is dedicated to everything about Broadway - the shows, the costumes, the history, and the theaters. It took us through a timeline from when Broadway started through today with various exhibits for the decades with real world events on the timeline so you can see how these events affected Broadway shows. It was a really enjoyable experience!

The inspiration for this layout came from this sketch I found on ScrapMuch. You can see this sketch along with others here.

I converted this sketch from 12" x 12" to 8 1/2" x 11" since I am working in this format for most of my projects now. I am also continuing to use the same paper collection from my stash for all the New York City layouts. The title is a combination of die cut letters and letter stickers. I added some buttons from my stash to embellish the layout.

NYC Weekend - All Wet Layout

The weekend (especially Friday) we were in New York City was very, very rainy. The rain caused quite a few problems in the city with flooded streets as well as some of the subway lines. Meghan and I dealt with it ok but definitely did not do as much walking around as we would have if the weather was better.

The inspiration for this layout came from this sketch I found on Scrapbook.com.

I added some buttons and die cut stars from my stash. I also added some faux-stitching on the stars with a white gel pen and on the layout with a black pen and ruler.

NYC Weekend - Hamilton Layout

Meghan and I were so excited to be able to finally see the musical Hamilton on Broadway while in New York City for the weekend. We have been listening to the soundtrack since it came out but seeing it on stage completely beats that!

The inspiration for this layout came from this sketch from the Sassy Lil' Sketches. You can see this sketch along with others here.

I converted this sketch from 12" x 12" to 8 1/2" x 11" since I am working in this format for most of my projects now. I continued to work with keeping the photo sizes fairly close to those in the sketch with this layout. I am also continuing to use the same paper collection from my stash for all the New York City layouts. The title was stamped with an alphabet set from my stamp collection.

NYC Weekend - Art Layout

On the Friday of our New York City weekend Meghan and I went up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was a very rainy day which made travel in the city a little hectic as some of the subway lines were partially flooded so we took an Uber to the museum. we both enjoyed wandering around the galleries and stopped occasionally so she could sketch.

The inspiration for this layout came from this sketch from the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine Challenge Facebook group.

I converted this sketch from 12" x 12" to 8 1/2" x 11" since I am working in this format for most of my projects now. I kept the photo height the same but cut down the width so I could still fit three photos in the layout. This was another great stash busting layout since all of the papers and embellishments came from my stash. The title was die cut using the Block Alphabet Thin Cuts set.
